My Sleep Apnea Story
In the spring of 2015, I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Even though I had been snoring since my twenties, I was unaware of my apnea issue until I was diagnosed. I only learned about my snoring from my roommates and later from my wife. In 2015, my condition worsened to the point that I started waking up because my airway was becoming completely blocked. I went to see a doctor who prescribed a sleep study for me. The sleep study confirmed my condition, and the doctor gave me a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine with a full-face mask. However, I found it difficult to tolerate the mask as it made me feel smothered, and the air tube connecting the machine to the mask got in my way no matter which side I tried to sleep on. I was worried that I would never get a good night's sleep again.
I asked the doctor for other options but was told that I had to try and "fail" at using the CPAP before they could try a different type of positive air pressure machine. Since I didn't have time for that I searched the internet for natural remedies for sleep apnea but couldn't find anything that helped with a natural cure. Luckily, I discovered a paid internet service called EBSCO, a repository for hundreds of thousands of documents. I was only interested in sleep apnea medical studies and found studies done in countries other than the US where OSA patients had their symptoms greatly reduced using natural methods such as exercises and breathing techniques. I started doing the exercises immediately, and began seeing relief! I remember taking a 20-minute walk around my block while doing oral toning exercises. That night I was able to fall asleep without gagging! Things only got better after that. I modified some of the exercises to make them more effective. According to my wife, my snoring volume decreased to a low hum and happily, I was able to sleep without the CPAP. I was dreaming again and felt alert during the day. After this success, I began writing Sleep Apnea Cured in Three Steps to share these methods with other OSA sufferers who couldn't tolerate CPAP.
There is hope!
